Actor Kevin Spacey, on his social media platform X (previously Twitter), posted a video where he advised Guy Pearce, his co-star in L.A. Confidential, to “mature” or “grow up”. This statement follows Pearce’s claim from earlier this week that Spacey had been targeting him during the filming of the 1997 neo-noir crime movie.
What did Kevin Spacey say about Guy Pearce’s allegations?
On Tuesday, I hopped onto X to talk about the allegations against me by Guy Pearce. I posted a 1 minute, 42 second video with the caption, “Grow up, Guy Pearce. You’re not a victim.” In this video, I spoke extensively about my perspective on what happened between us. I started off by speaking directly to Guy, letting him know that I had read his comments about me. I also mentioned that I typically prefer not to air out our issues in the media, but it seems like Guy might have his own reasons for wanting to do exactly that.
The House of Cards star went on to say, “We collaborated in the past. If I may have inadvertently hurt your feelings back then, you had the chance to communicate with me directly. We could have discussed it, but instead, you chose to air your grievances through the media. Now, they’re hounding me for my reaction to your statements. If you truly want to know what I think, mature up.
Spacey suggested in a video that Pearce visited him in Georgia during the filming of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), which was approximately a year following the production of L.A. Confidential. He questioned if Pearce had also shared this with the media. In his explanation, Spacey stated, “I’m sorry I didn’t pick up on the fact that you don’t enjoy spending time with me. Perhaps there was some other reason, I’m not sure, but it doesn’t add up. It seems odd that you would have only wanted to hang out with me, right? But now, 28 years later, after I’ve been through so much, here you are again.
Significantly, Spacey was found not guilty of allegations related to sexual misconduct in the United States in 2022 and sexual assault charges in the United Kingdom in 2023.
Or, more casually:
Spacey managed to beat the sexual misconduct charges in the U.S. back in 2022 and also got off the hook for sexual assault accusations in the U.K. in 2023.
At the end of the video in question, Spacey inquired about Pearce’s delay in addressing this topic and offered openness for “a chat at any time, anywhere.” He also suggested they might discuss it live on X. Spacey stated, “I have nothing to hide,” before challenging Pearce to mature, implying that he is not truly a victim as suggested by the caption.
