As a die-hard Marvel fan who has grown up with the MCU and its ever-expanding universe of heroes, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming releases – The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*. It’s like being a kid in a candy store, and Kevin Feige just handed me a bag full of my favorite treats!
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has offered up some updates on the production status of the upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as well as what makes a movie like Thunderbolts* so Marvel.
What did Kevin Feige say about The Fantastic Four: First Steps?
During his latest online visit at the unveiling of the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige disclosed that the forthcoming Fantastic Four film is nearing completion, and he’s thrilled about the team’s upcoming adventures within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
At last, the Fantastic Four will make their entrance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” said Feige. “They finish filming next week, with the movie premiering the following summer. Once done, these characters will seamlessly move into future Avengers films, which has me eager for the upcoming exploits of the Fantastic Four.
On July 25, 2025, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is scheduled to premiere, with Matt Shakman at the helm. Shakman, known for directing every episode of the WandaVision miniseries, will be in charge. The Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot features Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that Natasha Lyonne, known for her role in Poker Face, will join the cast as a unique take on Silver Surfer, named Shalla-Bal. Julia Garner, famous for her work in Ozark, is also part of the team. In an exciting twist, Ralph Ineson, who played in Harry Potter, has been cast as Galactus. Joining them are John Malkovich (Places in the Heart), Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird), and Natasha Lyonne (The Russian Doll), each of whom will bring their unique talents to undisclosed roles within this project.
Feige thinks Thunderbolts* is a quintessential Marvel project
Beyond discussing The Fantastic Four, Feige also mentioned the upcoming Thunderbolts team, scheduled for release in May 2025. For Feige, a movie like Thunderbolts is “exactly what Marvel does,” as it involves uniting multiple heroes and characters into one grand production.
Feige explained that they blend characters from a variety of settings and series, just like the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy do. In simpler terms, it’s about combining characters from diverse universes.
The film stars Florence Pugh (Midsommar) as Yelena Belova, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Veep) as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters) as John Walker/ US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man & The Wasp) as Ava Starr/Ghost, Olga Kurylenko (Hitman) as Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) as Sentry, Geraldine Viswanathan (Miracle Workers), and more.
