As a long-time fan who has witnessed countless highs and lows in Kevin Durant‘s illustrious career, I can’t help but feel a pang of concern upon seeing him go down with an injury yet again. The way he hobbled off the court against the Spurs was reminiscent of the playoff series against the Warriors when he tore his Achilles, leaving me with a similar sense of dread.
Kevin Durant’s stellar performance against the San Antonio Spurs took an unforeseen twist. The star forward had to leave the game due to an injury. As the Phoenix Suns rejoiced their victory, attention swiftly turned towards Durant’s health and its potential impact on the team in the future. Essentially, he got hurt during the match.
Let’s take a closer look at Kevin Durant’s injury.
How did Kevin Durant get injured?
On Tuesday, Kevin Durant’s game against the San Antonio Spurs was abruptly ended due to a sprain in his left ankle. The injury happened near the end of the second quarter while Durant, playing for the Phoenix Suns, was trying to dodge Julian Champagnie and Devin Vassell during a fast break. As he moved towards the basket, Durant accidentally stepped on Champagnie’s foot which led him to lose his balance and fall onto the court.
Despite appearing to be in discomfort, Durant played on for a brief spell, successfully making his free throws and even hitting a mid-range jumper shortly after. With 3 minutes and 51 seconds left in the quarter, Royce O’Neale replaced him. At halftime, it was reported that Durant’s ankle had tightened up, causing the medical team to keep him out for the remainder of the game. He re-entered at the start of the third quarter but had to leave again and head to the locker room.
When will Kevin Durant return to play for NBA?
There isn’t a set date for when Kevin Durant will be back on the court for the NBA following his knee injury. Following the game, Coach Mike Budenholzer discussed the matter, stating that Durant’s health would be reevaluated the next day.
Budenholzer stated, “I believe he might have stepped on someone’s foot during transition play, and it seemed to become stiff by halftime. We will need to assess him again in the morning, see how he feels after waking up, and observe how he is throughout the night. Frankly, I don’t know much more than what was reported at halftime.
Even without Durant, the coach maintained a positive outlook, remarking, “It’s just typical NBA stuff. We’re no exception.” (ESPN)
