As a long-time Yellowstone fan with countless hours invested in following the Dutton family saga, I must admit, the recent turn of events has left me both intrigued and slightly puzzled. Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton, met an untimely end in Season 5B, and his absence was palpable, to say the least.
As a devoted admirer, I’m sharing an update about the legendary Kevin Costner, who has spoken up regarding his character John Dutton’s demise in Yellowstone Season 5B. Known for his memorable role as Ray Kinsella in Field of Dreams, Costner brought the Dutton family patriarch to life across the first four seasons and the initial episodes of Season 5. However, he decided not to appear in the closing episodes of this popular series.
Kevin Costner comments on John Dutton’s death in Yellowstone
In the premiere of Yellowstone Season 5B, it appears that John Dutton takes his own life, with a handgun discovered near his body. However, the audience does not get a clear view of John’s face, as Costner’s stunt double is featured instead. Interestingly, Kevin Costner himself doesn’t make an appearance in the episode, although he is acknowledged in the credits.
On Sirius XM’s The Michael Smerconish Program on November 11th, Costner admitted he hadn’t seen the episode. He confessed, “To be completely open, I wasn’t aware it was broadcast last night. Honestly, that’s a truthful statement. I swear to God.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Man, I keep seeing ads with my face plastered everywhere, but let me tell you, I’ve got no idea what game those are! Yesterday, I realized it was the release day – totally missed it. I’ve been so caught up in my own missions and making calls that I feel like a passenger sometimes. Life’s moving pretty fast.
Costner mentioned he had heard rumors about John taking his own life, and this was one reason for his hesitance to watch the episode. He was hoping it was all a “red herring,” or a false clue meant to mislead. In other words, he said, “Perhaps it’s a red herring. They’re quite intelligent people. Maybe they’ve planted this as a distraction. Who knows? They’re very capable and will likely uncover the truth.
It appears that Kevin Costner’s suspicions could be validated, as John Dutton didn’t apparently take his own life but was possibly murdered instead. The suspect in this case is Sarah Atwood, played by Dawn Olivieri, who seems to have orchestrated the murder with Jamie Dutton, portrayed by Wes Bentley.
Yellowstone Season 5B airs on Sundays on Paramount Network.
