Keerthy Suresh opens up on rejecting Mahanati in the first go after a four hour narration; ‘I was extremely scared…’

As a lifestyle expert and keen observer of the film industry, I am utterly captivated by Keerthy Suresh‘s transformative journey, particularly her portrayal of Savitri in Mahanati. Her courage to take on such an iconic role after initially turning it down, due to her self-doubt, is a testament to her growth as an artist.

Reflecting on my own life experiences, I can relate to Keerthy’s initial apprehension and fear of taking on a challenge that seemed insurmountable. However, it was Nag Ashwin’s unwavering faith in her abilities that propelled her forward, instilling confidence in herself and ultimately leading to her triumph in the role.

One can’t help but admire Keerthy’s resilience in the face of adversity, as she persevered through criticism and false rumors, proving her naysayers wrong by delivering an exceptional performance that resonated with audiences. It’s a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a little faith from others to believe in ourselves when we can’t seem to do so.

To add a touch of humor to this insightful tale, I can’t help but think about the irony of Keerthy turning down Mahanati only to later embody the legendary actress with such grace and conviction. If only Savitri could see her portrayal now, she might just be rolling with laughter at the twist of fate!

Keerthy Suresh’s outstanding portrayal in Mahanati by Nag Ashwin marked a remarkable milestone in her acting career. This film presented the life of the timeless actress Savitri, and Keerthy demonstrated exceptional talent on stage, leaving audiences in awe. Interestingly, she initially declined the project after a lengthy four-hour discussion about it. However, later she reconsidered and decided to take it on.

In a recent chat with Galatta India, I (as a lifestyle expert) found myself in the shoes of Keerthy Suresh, who shared an intriguing story about her initial reluctance to star in Mahanati. When Nag Ashwin presented the script to her, it took over four hours to go through it thoroughly. The reason for my hesitation was simple: I questioned if I could do justice to the role, as Mahanati is a biopic of one of the most celebrated actresses of all time – the legendary Savitri. It was an immense responsibility that made me pause and consider the challenge before me.

She explained, “I declined the offer mainly due to fear. The idea of a stranger creating a biography about a legendary figure seemed risky. I worried that they might blame me for spoiling it, and I couldn’t think of any other favorable aspects. Honestly, I was quite terrified.

Actress Raghu Thatha expressed concerns about how the audience might perceive her representation of a legendary actress’s personal life in the film, as it contained numerous scenes, fearing they might dislike it or misunderstand it.

Yet, she brought up returning to the project following the filmmaker, Nag Ashwin, expressing his belief in her abilities and assurance that she possessed qualities capable of handling such a demanding role.

According to her, she expressed concerns such as “We need to reveal a lot of her personal aspects. What if her fans dislike it? Or misinterpret it?” However, they were extremely confident. It was Nagi’s faith in me, greater than my own self-belief, that motivated me to take on that film project.

As her career neared its close, the diva revealed that the biopic had come along at a pivotal moment in her life. At this point, following the disappointing reception of her Tamil film debut, she had faced a loss of confidence that was evident to those around her.

Keerthy mentioned that people labeled her as unfortunate and openly criticized her, along with spreading baseless rumors about her supposed relationships with several of her colleagues, which seemed to surface all at once during that period.
