Keanu Reeves’ The Entertainment System Is Down Begins Filming, Star-Studded Cast Finalized

A fresh, witty spoof titled “The Entertainment System Is Down,” featuring the talented Keanu Reeves, has commenced filming. The main shooting phase is currently taking place in Budapest and is scheduled to continue for approximately 70 days, wrapping up in May 2025.

This darkly humorous film unfolds amidst an airborne journey from England to Australia. With the in-flight entertainment failing, travelers find themselves grappling with tedium. The production team has opted to use a genuine Boeing 747 as the filming location.

Since the release of John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023, Keanu Reeves has taken a break from live-action films. However, he is set to return as John Wick in the upcoming spin-off movie Ballerina, which hits theaters on June 6, 2025. Lately, Reeves lent his voice to the character of Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Who is in The Entertainment System Is Down cast?

In the leading role, we have Reeves joined by an illustrious ensemble comprising Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun, Samantha Morton, and Tobias Menzies.

The rest of the cast features Connor Swindells, Daniel Webber, Wayne Blair, Dan Wyllie, Lindsay Duncan, Allan Corduner, Sofia Tjelta Sydness, Erin Ainsworth, Myles Kamwendo, Sanna Sundqvist, Elle Piper, Tea Stjärne, and the Swedish artist Benjamin Ingrosso.

Renowned filmmaker Ruben Östlund pens and oversees the production of The Entertainment System is Down. This is Östlund’s second film in English, following 2022’s Triangle of Sadness – a project that earned him the Palme d’Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Notably, Triangle of Sadness was nominated for three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay in the year 2023.

Apart from “The Square,” “Force Majeure,” “Play,” “Involuntary,” and “The Guitar Mongoloid,” other movies directed by Östlund are part of his filmography.

The movie “The Entertainment System Is Down” is a joint production between Plattform Produktion from Sweden, Essential Films from Germany, and Parisienne de Production from France. Additionally, it’s co-produced by BBC Film, Film i Väst, Sveriges Television from Sweden, ZDF/ARTE from Germany and ARTE France Cinéma, SF Studios, Eye Eye Pictures from Norway, and Paloma Productions from Denmark.

A24 won the U.S. rights to the film in an eight-figure deal at Cannes last year.
