The intriguing Weezer film, which was recently announced, has generated further buzz, as reported by Jeff Sneider of The InSneider. It appears that Keanu Reeves will take on the role of a villain in this project, and details about who is behind it have also been disclosed.
What do we know about Weezer’s mystery movie?
Over the weekend at the Coachella music festival, it was the band themselves who unexpectedly revealed that they were working on a film, which they’ve titled “The Weezer Movie.” During their performance, Rivers Cuomo, the songwriter and guitarist, took a break between songs to share this exciting news.
For quite a while now, rumors about the upcoming movie have been spreading, and remarkably, the band has solicited audience participation in shooting a major fight sequence back in October 2024, as reported by Rolling Stone.
New details have emerged regarding the upcoming film. As per Sneider’s recent report, a number of well-known actors are set to feature in this production. Keanu Reeves has been cast as the antagonist, while Ben Schwartz, Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, and Johnny Knoxville will also make appearances, portraying themselves in some capacity within the film.
According to Sneider’s remarks, the movie in question was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who are also known for helming Paranormal Activity 3 and 4. The film can be categorized as both a concert movie and a mockumentary.
As stated by Sneider, the mockumentary section of the upcoming film will be set in a unique reality, blending elements from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. At this time, no release date for the movie has been announced.
