In an interview with NYLON, Katy Perry’s stylist, Johnny Wujek, explained the reason behind adding whipped cream coming out of her costume – “We needed a way to overcome the Gummy Bears and Katy suggested, ‘What if my bra sprays whipped cream and eliminates them all?'” He further mentioned, “I was unsure about how to create that. But I said, ‘Yes, we can pull this off. We can make it happen.’ It was a lengthy process, and I collaborated with some amazing special effects experts to bring the idea to life.

When it was launched, California Gurls shattered numerous records and received a nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 53rd Grammy Awards.
