Katy O’Brian, Margaret Cho, & More Join Tina Romero Zom-Com Queens of the Dead

As a huge fan of horror and zombie movies, I am beyond excited about the upcoming queer-centric zombie comedy “The Queens of the Dead“! The fact that it comes from Tina Romero, the daughter of legendary filmmaker George A. Romero, only makes it more special.

As a horror movie enthusiast with a soft spot for quirky and unconventional stories, I’m beyond thrilled about the latest development in the world of queer cinema and zombie comedies. The announcement that Katy O’Brian from Love Lies Bleeding and Margaret Cho from Fire Island have joined the cast of The Queens of the Dead is simply music to my ears!

The director of Queens of the Dead honors her father’s filmmaking legacy, George A. Romero, by adding a distinctive perspective to the zombie genre. This innovative take on the theme will focus on a zombie outbreak at a drag show in Brooklyn. Amidst the chaos, drag queens and clubgoers must put their personal conflicts behind to band together and battle the undead.

Who’s in the Queens of the Dead cast?

Based on Deadline’s report, the cast of Queens of the Dead includes Brigette Lundy-Paine (I Saw the TV Glow) and Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story). Additionally, Dominique Jackson (Pose), Quincy Dunn-Baker (No Hard Feelings), Nina West (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther), Eve Lindley (Bros), Jaquel Spivey (Mean Girls), Tomas Matos (Fire Island), Becca Blackwell (Bros), and Riki Lindhome (Knives Out) are expected to join the production.

In a statement given to the media outlet, the director expressed her excitement by saying, “The actors coming on board for this project are my ideal dream cast.”

In a survival movie, you’ll find yourself deeply invested in the fate of the resilient team. Each member adds a unique and essential ingredient to the mix, both in their actions on screen and behind the scenes. The end product is nothing short of enchanting, according to Romero.

Just like her father before her used the zombie apocalypse as a means to explore deep themes, Romero plans to continue this tradition by “carrying on the Romero zombie legacy” with her unique style and point of view.

“Dad brought the iconic zombie creature to life in a way we’re all familiar with, using it as a lens to examine society for several decades according to Romero’s past interview with Fangoria. Romero’s zombies consistently mirrored societal issues, and I feel a sense of duty to continue the Romero zombie legacy while also infusing my unique filmmaking style and perspective.”

Romero also wrote the script for Queens of the Dead alongside Erin Judge.
