Chandu Champion ending spoilers
In the finale of Chandu Champion, Murlikant Petkar secured an extraordinary triumph by establishing a new world record and claiming a gold medal at the Paralympics. This incredible feat was later acknowledged in 2018 when the President of India bestowed upon him the Padma Shri award. The movie recounts Petkar’s inspiring journey, transitioning from a war veteran left paralyzed to a Paralympic gold medalist. It underscores his unwavering resilience and determination in overcoming adversity.
Why did Murli leave his village?
1952 saw the village of Karad alive with enthusiasm as villagers celebrated K.D. Jadhav’s groundbreaking Olympic victory. Young Murlikant, along with his older brother, bore witness to this joyous spectacle. Inflamed by Jadhav’s accomplishment, Murli resolved within himself: he would secure a gold medal for India.
Initially, Murli’s dreams for something other than education met strong opposition from his father, who believed that only an education could lead to a respectable life. He dismissed Murli’s aspirations as unwise and encouraged him to concentrate on his studies. Even the villagers scoffed at Murli’s ambitions. However, Murli found support in his brother, who enrolled him in a local wrestling arena where he started his training from an early age.
Over time, Murli’s resolve remained steadfast. One day, a wrestling contest occurred in the village, with Murli facing off against the Sarpanch’s son. At first, the Sarpanch’s son appeared to have the upper hand, but then unexpectedly, Murli emerged victorious. This triumph, unfortunately, enraged the Sarpanch, causing the villagers to pursue Murli in anger. In a last-ditch effort to avoid capture, Murli hastily boarded a train destined for Poona.
On a train journey, Murli encountered Karnail, an amateur boxer who happily imparted his boxing wisdom to Murli. Before long, Karnail and Murli forged a strong bond, becoming each other’s closest friends. They decided to enlist together in the Indian army, where Murli received structured training in boxing. He poured all of his enthusiasm into this sport, aiming to showcase his skills on a global platform.
Following numerous grueling training sessions, Murli ultimately secured a chance to compete for India in the International Military Games held in Tokyo. Accompanied by his coach and comrades, he embarked on the journey to Tokyo with great expectations. In the initial matches, he displayed exceptional skill, overcoming strong competitors.
Did Petkar win gold in the Summer Paralympics?
On the night before the finals, Murli’s concentration slipped. He was asked to appear on national television for an interview, excited about his recent fame prior to the important match. Unfortunately, this choice had consequences as it left him with minimal time to assess his opponent’s abilities. Overconfident and insufficiently prepared, Murli stepped into the arena the following day and faced a crushing loss. This setback dashed Murli’s hopes of claiming the gold medal that year.
1965, smack dab in the middle of the Indo-Pakistani War, I, Murlikant Petkar, found myself grappling with injuries so severe they plunged me into a coma for years on end. When I finally woke up, the cold truth was that my lower body had been left paralyzed, stripping me of my ability to walk without help. This life-changing injury sent me spiraling into despair, leaving me contemplating the unthinkable – ending it all. But fate, it seemed, had other ideas in store for me.

Later on, Tiger, who was once Murli’s coach, reappeared in his life, igniting within him a fresh drive. Tiger suggested that Murli focus his energy on swimming, a sport that would allow him to compete even with his physical restrictions. With this new ambition fueling him, Murli embarked on intense training, resolved on representing India in the Paralympics. True to his word, Murli participated in the 1972 Paralympic Games held in Heidelberg, Germany. Through unwavering determination and tireless effort, he clinched the gold medal in the 50m freestyle swimming event, shattering the existing world record.
Back in 2017, I, as an avid gamer, found myself deeply moved by the epic tale of Murli. His journey was unlike anything I’d ever experienced, not just in games, but in reality too. Inspired, I felt a strong urge to spread his story far and wide. So, teaming up with a skilled wordsmith, we worked tirelessly to bring Murli’s extraordinary struggle and triumph into the limelight for all to see.
In 2018, Murlikant Petkar received the highly respected Padma Shri award from the President of India. His life story serves as a potent reminder of the indomitable strength of the human spirit, the determination to chase dreams in the face of adversity, and the conviction that no obstacle is too great to overcome.
