Karnataka Film Chamber bans Thug Life release, demands apology from Kamal Haasan for his Kannada language remark

Karnataka Film Chamber puts a ban on Thug Life over Kamal Haasan’s remark

Although the senior Tamil actor has explained his statement from the event and stated it was exaggerated, the issue doesn’t seem to be fading away. His comment sparked outrage among several Kannada language groups and associations, leading the Karnataka Film Chamber to prohibit Thug Life until Kamal Haasan issues an apology.

The Kannada and Culture Minister of Karnataka has written a letter to the Film Chamber, expressing that comments made have caused significant pain within the Kannada-speaking community. He has asked for the postponement of the release of Thug Life until a suitable apology is given.

Will Thug Life not release in Karnataka?

It appears that I’ve been asked to comply with a short-term prohibition on the unveiling of the Mani Ratnam film, due to a request for an apology from Kamal Haasan on the specified issue, by May 30th. This is as per the stipulations set forth by the KFCC.

In a press conference, the head of the Karnataka Film Chamber stated, “We hold no compassion for Kamal Haasan. If he doesn’t issue a public apology by today or tomorrow, we will stand with Kannada activists and strongly demonstrate. Under no conditions will we allow the film’s premiere unless he publicly apologizes.
