Oh my heart, hearing about the untimely demise of Guruprasad, a Kannada filmmaker whose work I have always admired, leaves me utterly devastated. His films, especially Mata and Eddelu Manjunatha, were not just movies for us fans; they were stories that touched our souls, narratives that echoed the depths of human emotions.
52-year-old well-known Kannada film director Guruprasad was tragically discovered deceased at his home in the Madanaiyakanahalli district of Karnataka. According to The Indian Express, the authorities are currently investigating whether this could be a suicide case and have submitted an Unusual Death Report (UDR).
Officials believe Guruprasad might have died around four to five days prior, as his body was found in a state of decomposition. His second spouse, Sumithra, shared with the police that Guruprasad was facing severe financial difficulties.
As per the report, a senior police officer commented that there was no indication of an intrusion and the door was found locked from within. It was also noted that the officer’s wife hinted at his financial struggles, as he had amassed substantial debt due to his filmmaking projects, which could potentially have played a role in the situation.
On October 25th, Guruprasad’s wife attempted to reach him by phone, but he failed to answer her calls. Then, on November 3rd, a local resident named Jayaram informed Sumithra about an unpleasant smell emanating from the apartment where Guruprasad resided.
At a press conference, authorities shared that they did not discover any suicide note in Guruprasad’s home. Nevertheless, his body is being taken to a public hospital for a thorough autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In the year 2020, Guruprasad tied the knot for a second time with Sumithra. Together, they have a three-year-old girl as their child. It’s worth mentioning that the director has a daughter from his first marriage to Arathi as well.
Two of Guruprasad’s films, Mata and Eddelu Manjunatha, starring actor Jaggesh, were among his most successful ventures. For the latter film, he received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2009. His latest production, titled Ranganayaka, was also a collaboration with Jaggesh.
