As a long-time movie enthusiast and follower of the Tamil film industry, I must say that the upcoming release of Suriya’s Kanguva has been one of the most highly anticipated films for me this year. The recent song and trailer have only fueled my excitement. However, the recent news about legal troubles surrounding producer K.E. Gnanavel Raja and Studio Green is a bit concerning.
Anticipation for Suriya’s upcoming movie “Kanguva,” slated for release on November 14, 2024, is reaching fever pitch among cinemagoers. Ever since the project was announced, fans have eagerly awaited this film. The debut of Kanguva’s song featuring Suriya and Disha Patani, along with an intriguing movie trailer, has only intensified the buzz surrounding its premiere. However, recent rumors about potential obstacles in releasing the film have been circulating on social media platforms, causing some concern among enthusiasts.
According to an article in Indiaglitz, Studio Green’s head K.E. Gnanavel Raja finds himself in a legal predicament due to a lawsuit filed by Reliance Entertainment. The allegation is that he failed to repay a loan related to several films, and a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the Chennai High Court as a result. It’s said that Gnanavel Raja took Rs 99.22 crore from Reliance for the films “Teddy” starring Arya and “Thangalaan” featuring Chiyaan Vikram, but has only repaid Rs 45 crore so far, leaving a significant amount unpaid.
According to a filed complaint, Reliance is seeking a payment of 550 million rupees from the producer and alleges that the contract was violated. Furthermore, based on reports, Reliance has requested the court to prevent the release of Kanguva, starring Suriya, Bobby Deol, and Disha Patani in theaters, as well as delay the OTT release of Thangalaan featuring Chiyaan Vikram until the debts are paid off. It is important to note that no formal announcement has been made regarding this issue.
Furthermore, according to a report on Indiaglitz, Studio Green has guaranteed the court that the release of Kanguva will not occur prior to November 14, and Thangalaan will also remain unavailable on streaming platforms until then. These assurances were made by Justice Kumaresh Babu during a hearing, and he postponed further proceedings until November 7. This temporary decision brings some respite to both parties involved in the case.
If the rumors are accurate and the ongoing court case has an impact on Kanguva’s release, fans can expect to be disappointed. Originally, Suriya’s film was scheduled for a release on October 10th, but it was rescheduled to November 14th to prevent conflicts with other big-name films like Vettaiyan starring Rajinikanth, Fahadh Faasil, Amitabh Bachchan, and Rana Daggubati.
