Kamal Haasan’s older brother and actor Charuhasan hospitalized; daughter Suhasini terms it ‘medical staycation’

As a dedicated follower of the illustrious world of Indian cinema, I have always held Charuhasan in high esteem for his remarkable contribution to the industry spanning over four decades. His journey from being an elder brother and caretaker to a renowned actor, lawyer, and director is nothing short of inspiring.

Known to film enthusiasts nationwide, Charuhasan – elder brother of Kamal Haasan – is not just a familiar name but a renowned figure. He spent four and half decades working as an actor in over 120 films, and even won a National Award for his performances. However, he has now retired from the legal profession.

Over the past few days, I’ve been deeply concerned due to my beloved 93-year-old mentor being admitted to the hospital due to age-related health issues. It’s been his daughter, Suhasini Maniratnam, who has tirelessly cared for him throughout this challenging time. In heartening news, Suhasini recently shared on social media that Charuhasan is making a remarkable recovery. I’m relieved and grateful for every positive update we receive about his health.

Based on updates, I’ve been the one diligently caring for my father during his hospital stay. Recently, I posted a heartfelt photo of him on social media, expressing my feelings in a touching caption.

“Is this a vacation or more of a home-based recovery period for your father, who’s doing quite well? The care he’s receiving is from doctors, nurses, and his loving daughters.”

More about Charuhasan

Charuhasan, being 23 years senior to his younger brother Kamal Haasan, played a significant role as a mentor during Kamal’s early acting career, especially when Kamal was still a child actor. In other words, Charuhasan acted as the guardian for Vikram (Kamal Haasan) in the early stages of his acting journey in Tamil cinema.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast myself, I’ve always been captivated by the stories of this legendary figure. In his own words, he’s admitted to being a cinephile, relishing every moment spent watching films. His journey began in 1979 with the Tamil film Uthiripookkal, under the guidance of Mahendran. Since then, this seasoned actor has graced over 120 films across multiple languages such as Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi, apart from Tamil.

In 1986, the actor was not only given the National Award and the Karnataka State Award for his exceptional acting skills, but he also directed two movies, in addition to his roles on screen.

For the past four decades, the 93-year-old actor has seldom paused his acting career, starting back in 1979. In fact, his most recent production hit screens in June of this year, titled “Haraa.” This action-thriller movie was directed by Vijay Sri G.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share my thoughts on this cinematic journey. This movie, oh boy! It starred none other than Mohan, Anumol, the hilarious Yogi Babu, and the formidable Motta Rajendran – a cast that had me at hello! The production house behind this masterpiece was JM Productions Pvt. Ltd., a name synonymous with quality filmmaking. Rashaanth Ashwin, a maestro in his own right, graced us with his enchanting music for the film.
