There were rumors surrounding the absence of intimate scenes in this film, with some people speculating that it was because Mammootty was cast as the lead actor.
Contrary to some speculation, the film’s director, Jeo Baby, clarified in an interview with The New Indian Express that the movie is indeed about two individuals in love and not a father-daughter relationship. He also mentioned that he didn’t include scenes of hugging or kissing because it wasn’t necessary for the storyline. If Mammootty was unavailable, Baby would have cast another actor for the role in Kaathal.
Additionally, the director explained his choice of Mammootty as the main character by stating that he sought an actor sensitive to issues within the LGBTQ community. Moreover, the director also mentioned that Mammootty had questions about being cast in this role, to which the director responded by explaining that he required an actor who could grasp the film’s theme.
baby_jeo clarified that they began shooting the film just half a year after sharing the story with Mammootty, causing him to delay Kannur Squad’s production for this project. Moreover, the director disclosed that the movie’s script was finalized following three conversations with Mammootty and it was his idea to cast Jyothika as the main character.
