Justin Long, Ashley Benson, & More to Star in Clark Duke’s Comedy Thriller Stranglehold

As a huge fan of unique and quirky comedic thrillers, I am beyond excited about the upcoming film “Stranglehold.” The announcement of its ensemble cast has only fueled my anticipation for this Southern-fried siege that promises shades of classics like “Dog Day Afternoon” and “Die Hard.”

As a film critic with over a decade of experience under my belt, I’m always on the lookout for fresh and exciting projects. And let me tell you, the recent announcement that the ensemble cast for “Stranglehold” has been revealed has truly piqued my interest! This upcoming comedic thriller from actor-turned-filmmaker Clark Duke, who impressed us all with his directorial debut in “Arkansas,” is a project I’ll be keeping a close eye on. Having witnessed the evolution of Duke’s career, I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table as a writer and director in this genre-bending production. Plus, with filming already wrapped up, we won’t have to wait much longer to find out!

A fresh comedy-thriller, described as a “Southern-style standoff with hints of Dog Day Afternoon and Die Hard” narration, is penned by Chandler Duke, Billington Garrett, and Duke. The storyline centers around an exotic dancer planning to burglarize the club where she performs in order to break free from her current life and chase after her long-held aspirations.

Who stars in Stranglehold?

I’m thrilled to share that in the upcoming movie “Stranglehold,” I’ll be following the journey of Ashley Benson‘s character, Bailey. She’s an alluring exotic dancer with ambitious goals. By her side is her devoted army veteran husband Tim, played by Jake Lacy.

As a gamer, I’m excited to hop on board with Benson and Lacy for their upcoming project. Not only will we have Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman (Hellboy) joining us, but also Justin Long, who’s no stranger to thrilling films. He’s made a name for himself in horror flicks like Jeepers Creepers, Drag Me to Hell, Tusk, Yoga Hosers, Ghost Team, House of Darkness, and Barbarian. And let me tell you, Perlman is no slouch either – his resume includes Drive, Cronos, Quest for Fire, Sergio and Sergei, The City of Lost Children, Nightmare Alley, The Bleeder, and The Last Winter, just to name a few.

Duke expressed his excitement to Deadline about working with an exceptional group of actors once again on “Stranglehold.” This film serves as a follow-up to “Arkansas,” continuing various themes and reflecting our current situation. I’m eager for everyone to witness it.

Among the producers of Stranglehold are Duke, Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, and Michael Day. Additionally, Lawrence Minicone, Ronnie Exley, Jeremy Ross, Sean Krajewski, Will Hirschfeld, Edmund Lowell, Aden Darmody, Michael Becker, Jeffrey Tussi, Michael J. Rothstein, Nick Donnermeyer, Andy Rich, David Nazar, Jason Kringstein, Scott Levenson, and Brian S. Unger serve as executive producers for the project.
