Justin Baldoni’s frustration about the supposed ridicule directed at him by Deadpool and Wolverine has escalated to Disney, as legal representatives have dispatched an official letter to the corporation regarding this issue.
Based on a recent report from Deadline, Baldoni’s legal representatives have contacted Disney asking them to keep any relevant evidence connected to the successful Marvel Studios film. It’s not clear what specific evidence they wish to preserve, but this request was made in preparation for potential legal action against both Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.
Why is Justin Baldoni mad about Nicepool?
Last week, during an interview on The Megyn Kelly Show, lawyer Bryan Freedman implied that Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s husband, made a jab at Baldoni through the character of Nicepool in the movie. In the film, Nicepool is presented as a seemingly nice but actually toxic individual, despite being just as morally ambiguous as Deadpool.
In simpler terms, Freedman stated on The Megyn Kelly Show that when someone’s wife experiences sexual harassment, it’s not appropriate to laugh at Justin Baldoni about it. He emphasized that the topic is deeply connected to Justin, and if you truly understand the gravity of sexual harassment, you wouldn’t find humor in such a serious issue.
Right before the new year, Baldoni brought a legal action against Lively, accusing Lively’s PR team of spreading an “unsubstantiated and self-benefiting tale” about Baldoni, using selective and manipulated communications that lacked essential context to portray him negatively. The lawsuit demands at least $250 million, with claims of fraud, breach of contract, and libel.
In response to allegations, Bryan Freedman, representing Baldoni and his PR team, stated that the New York Times appeared to have bowed down to the demands of Blake Lively and her associates, two influential figures in Hollywood. This seemingly involved abandoning journalistic integrity and ethical standards, as the Times once upheld, by manipulating articles and excluding contradictory evidence to support a predetermined PR storyline.
Lively’s complaint alleges that Baldoni created a hostile work environment
The legal action arises from a formal grievance lodged by Blake Lively against Baldoni last month. In the complaint, she describes a situation during the filming of It Ends With Us where conditions became so uncomfortable that an emergency meeting was convened to address her allegations of a toxic work atmosphere. During this gathering, Lively requested that Baldoni cease displaying explicit videos or pictures of women to her, stop discussing his pornography addiction with her, halt conversations about sexual experiences in her presence, and also refrain from commenting on her weight.
The lawsuit further alleges that Wayfarer Studios and the cast had agreed to emphasize Lively’s character’s strength and resilience rather than framing the movie as a tale of domestic violence. However, Lively contends that Baldoni went back on this agreement by discussing the film’s serious subject matter in interviews instead.
In the documents submitted by Lively, it’s stated that Baldoni and his public relations manager, Melissa Nathan, allegedly brainstormed strategies for a social media smear campaign to tarnish her reputation. The evidence presented includes approximately 22 pages of text messages between Baldoni’s PR representative and Nathan, where they appear to have expressed a desire to “eliminate” or “bury” Lively from public view.
