‘Just like RRR, we wanted to…’: Jr NTR on casting Bollywood actors Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan for Devara

As a dedicated follower of Telugu cinema, I am thrilled about Jr NTR’s upcoming film Devara. The star-studded cast, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, promises an exciting blend of talent from both Bollywood and Tollywood.

The upcoming movie titled “Devara” featuring Jr NTR has been generating a lot of excitement on social media, mainly because it’s his first solo project in six years. Moreover, this film also introduces two highly successful Bollywood personalities, Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, to the South cinema industry. At the recent pre-release event for “Devara”, Jr NTR discussed the factors that influenced such a remarkable casting choice.

Jr NTR shared that the team behind Devara aimed to develop a project similar to the modest beginnings of his past movie RRR, which garnered immense success internationally. Just like the SS Rajamouli directorial, he wished for Devara to be a film that would echo nationwide.

In conversation about Janhvi taking on the main role of Thangam in the movie, Jr NTR discussed how the team had been uncertain about casting for this specific character for quite a while. Eventually, it was director Karan Johar who proposed Janhvi’s name for the film.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that as follows: Initially, during the scriptwriting phase, there wasn’t a clear choice for the female lead. However, an individual seemed to be eagerly manifesting the role. Then, serendipitously, Karan Johar reached out to me, expressing his belief in Jahnvi’s talent and suggesting we consider her for our movie.

In addition to sharing further insights, Jr NTR discussed Janhvi’s reservations about the role in the movie, particularly due to the challenge of speaking dialogues in Telugu. He also disclosed that the actress was anxious about whether she could measure up to the legacy of her mother and renowned actress, Sridevi.

I pondered over and over again, “Could she truly pull it off? Speaking fluent Telugu, delivering a captivating performance in the language of my heart, mirroring the grace and charm of the legendary Sridevi garu on stage? Yet, when she stepped into the limelight, I was left breathless by her spellbinding act.

As the conversation neared its end, Jr NTR shared his thoughts about the process involved in bringing in a seasoned Bollywood actor, Saif Ali Khan, to play the villain in the movie.

The actor from Janatha Garage shared that the creators aimed to recast Saif in a powerful role analogous to the character of Langda Tyagi from his earlier film Omkara. He expressed, “We aimed to develop a character reminiscent of Langda Tyagi, who would have a significant impact on the storyline.

Devara: Part 1, directed by Koratala Siva, would hit theaters on September 27, 2024.
