In the cinemas right now, we have the release of “Jurassic World Rebirth.” The initial box office earnings are being carefully evaluated against the previous trilogy. Although it had a strong start over the holidays, predictions suggest that its opening will be less than the last three Jurassic World films.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s Wednesday box office numbers are in
On July 2, 2025, it’s said that the reboot of Universal’s Jurassic World, titled “Rebirth,” grossed approximately $28 million in its opening day, excluding earnings from the previews held on Tuesday.
The fourth-highest box office debut in the Jurassic series was recorded for this film, and interestingly, it’s the second time a Jurassic movie opened on a Wednesday. This is reminiscent of Jurassic Park III in 2001 which earned $19 million on its opening day (as reported by Deadline). The top three opening days still belong to Jurassic World (2015) with $81.9 million, Dominion (2022) with $59.5 million, and Fallen Kingdom (2018) with $58.5 million.
The movie is currently earning approximately $77.5 million over three days and $127.5 million during a five-day holiday weekend. Yet, predictions about future earnings are still unclear because this year, July 4 falls on a Friday. Back in 2014, when Independence Day fell on a Friday as well, Transformers: Age of Extinction experienced a 28% decrease in its Friday revenues compared to the day before.
Historically, Universal Pictures has demonstrated successful box office debuts on the Fourth of July, especially since the pandemic. For instance, F9 (2021) made $70 million over its first three days, Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022) earned $123 million in four days, and Despicable Me 4 (2023) brought in an impressive $122.6 million in five days post-Covid.
Jurassic World Rebirth’s box office to open lower than Dominion
In a total of 4,308 cinemas, ranging from premium large-format screens, Jurassic World: Rebirth (directed by Gareth Edwards) is currently being shown. This film, distributed by Universal and Amblin, has garnered a 53% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, marking an improvement over Dominion’s initial 29%.
Featuring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend, this movie presents a fresh set of actors as it carries on with the established tradition of the franchise. The premiere of “Rebirth” on Wednesday had a strong start, but it failed to match the unprecedented opening of the 2015 film.
Box office history of previous trilogy:
- Jurassic World (2015): $208.8M opening, $1.67B worldwide
- Fallen Kingdom (2018): $148M opening, $1.31B worldwide
- Dominion (2022): $145.1M opening, $1B worldwide
With a projected $127.5M 5-day total, Rebirth is pacing below all earlier trilogy installments.
Jurassic World Rebirth hit theaters on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
