The long-awaited trailer for “Jurassic World: Rebirth” has been released, which means it’s time to share our insights on the upcoming sequel in the Jurassic Park series. Over the years, this franchise has faced challenges with consistency, and following the underwhelming Dominion, there’s high anticipation for Rebirth to steer the series back on track. The trailer showcases some intriguing moments, but does it effectively boost our optimism for the film? Let’s delve into our thoughts and fan reactions.
Jurassic World Rebirth trailer review
Let’s immediately get this out of the way: what is this thing?
After Jurassic Park 3, the Jurassic Park series has often attempted to introduce new primary antagonist dinosaurs that haven’t quite lived up to the original’s iconic T-Rex (Rexy). Creatures such as the Indominus rex and the Indoraptor have been introduced, but none have managed to match the lasting impression made by Isla Nublar’s Tyrannosaurus Rex.
In the sequel of Jurassic World: Rebirth, it seems they’re continuing a similar pattern by introducing a monster reminiscent of Cloverfield. What sets it apart is that the new dinosaurs in earlier films maintained a regular dinosaur appearance, while this large, odd-looking creature is clearly designed as a central figure for a horror or creature-focused film. Personally, I prefer the series to stick closer to its origins, showcasing dinosaurs as more animalistic creatures rather than intentionally villainous ones.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but notice the striking similarities between the upcoming monster and the iconic creatures from Star Wars’ Rancor and Alien’s Xenomorphs. Yet, despite these obvious influences, the brief glimpses of this beast in the trailer have me quivering with fear, fueling my excitement for a horrifyingly thrilling addition to the Jurassic Park series.
Instead of the freshly created mutant beastie, Rebirth appears to resemble the original Jurassic Park rather than Jurassic World in a refreshing change. The visuals have moved away from the drab blue tones, now showcasing a brighter color scheme that suits an Indiana Jones-style escapade. The T-Rex’s appearance has been revamped, and with the shot being under broad daylight where no CGI tricks can be concealed, the updated design looks fantastic.
The intrigue lies in the development of the storyline as our group of characters embarks on an expedition to an island previously utilized as the Jurassic Park research facility. This journey may present a unique blend of dinosaurs flourishing in a human-untouched environment, alongside the chilling results of experiments conducted within that lab which didn’t transfer over to Isla Nublar. To top it off, I eagerly anticipate witnessing the iconic river scene from Michael Crichton’s novel brought to life on the silver screen again.
RATING
Rating: 3 out of 5.
To be honest, the Jurassic Park/World franchise has had its fair share of misses, leaving me somewhat apprehensive. However, after watching the latest trailer, I find myself feeling a bit hopeful, though still with a hint of caution.
