Jurassic World Rebirth Is Series’ Worst Box Office Opening in 20 Years

The new release, titled “Jurassic World Rebirth“, has hit theaters, and although it had an impressive debut at the box office, there’s a possibility that this installment could be the weakest in the series over the past two decades.

What are Jurassic World Rebirth’s box office opening results?

Based on current predictions (as reported by Deadline), Jurassic World Rebirth made an opening of $30.5 million on its first day. This suggests a potential $133.5 million earnings for the film over the next five days. Although this initial opening is strong and places it fourth in terms of openings within the Jurassic Park series, it would also represent the smallest opening since the franchise was revitalized approximately 20 years ago.

In comparison to previous Jurassic World movies, the opening revenue of $30.5 million falls short of Jurassic World ($81.9 million in 2015), Jurassic World Dominion ($59.5 million in 2022), and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($58.5 million in 2018). Additionally, the film’s projected earnings for its first five days also trail behind other films within the franchise, and even those launched on July 4th weekends, although it’s difficult to make accurate comparisons due to the holiday falling on different dates each year.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is helmed by director Gareth Edwards, with a script penned by David Koepp, inspired by the characters conceived by Michael Crichton. The star-studded cast includes Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton fame, and Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight). Alongside them are Rupert Friend (Homeland), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs. Lopez), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).

After five years since Jurassic World Dominion, it’s been discovered that Earth’s environment is mostly unsuitable for dinosaurs. The ones that survive live in secluded equatorial areas with climates similar to their original habitats. In this tropical ecosystem, the three largest creatures have a secret: they possess the key to a drug that could offer extraordinary life-saving advantages to humans.
