Julianne Hough reveals the Dancing with the Stars winner who shouldn’t have won

As a devoted fan of Dancing with the Stars who has witnessed numerous seasons and a myriad of talented contestants, I must admit that the winner of season 27, Bobby Bones, left me perplexed and questioning the judging process. His victory over deserving dancers like Milo Manheim and Evanna Lynch seemed more like a popularity contest than a testament to skill and artistry.

Throughout the years of Dancing with the Stars, many deserving champions have been crowned, but there have also been a handful of winners whose victories left fans puzzled about the judging process. One of the most debated winners is Bobby Bones from season 27, who emerged victorious over Disney star Milo Manheim and Harry Potter actress Evanna Lynch despite being the lowest-scoring dancer in the finale.

1. Fans are still perplexed by his win, and it appears that many share my sentiment – Bones was arguably the least deserving champion the show has had during its run.

In the August 18th episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” host Andy Cohen asked me, Julianne Hough (a two-time “Dancing with the Stars” champion turned host), if I’d ever disagreed with a winner on our show. After a brief pause, I confessed that yes, there was one contestant I felt didn’t quite deserve the Mirrorball Trophy – Bobby Bones. This revelation came to me after fellow guest Mickey Guyton whispered her own thoughts in my ear.

As a fellow gamer, I completely see your point, bro! Bones wasn’t my top pick either for the title of “best dancer” on the show. From where I stand, it seems like the whole thing comes down to fanbase – and Bones just didn’t have the same backing as some of the others.

Initially, Hough may have appeared unfazed, but it was genuinely invigorating to witness her eventually voice her agreement with Guyton in criticizing Bones as an unworthy winner for the show’s history. This viewpoint is widely shared among the “Dancing with the Stars” community too. We appreciate an underdog story, but Bones wasn’t the most gifted dancer that season. In fact, there were numerous other contestants that year who deserved the title of champion more, such as Milo Manheim and Evanna Lynch. Both of them displayed remarkable improvement throughout the season and consistently outperformed Bones in the leaderboard scoring.

Bobby Bones lashes out after being called worst DWTS winner

Fans might concur with Julianne Hough and Mickey Guyton’s opinion that Bobby Bones wasn’t the most deserving winner on Dancing with the Stars, but it appears Bobby Bones didn’t share this view – particularly not when it came to Mickey Guyton’s perspective.

On “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen, Julianne Hough was the guest. I’ve interacted with her a couple of times and she’s fantastic. However, let it be known that I have nothing negative to say about her. During the show, they asked who was the worst ever, and Julianne was tactful in her response. Interestingly enough, Mickey Guyton spoke up and mentioned Bobby Bones. To this, Julianne agreed, as shared by Bones on Instagram.

“I was the most hopeless dancer, yet I’m proud of that fact! I gave it my all, just like anyone who ever appeared on this show, but sadly, I can’t dance today, nor could I in the past. But do you know who defeated the dance juggernaut? Not a villainous empire, but us – me, you (referring to the camera), and the rest of us! We triumphed together.”

In a subsequent statement, Bones expressed his belief that he was “the ultimate champion” due to his connection with the people. He was the one chosen by them, but there was an interruption before he could finish, as he seemed to be referring to Mickey Guyton. However, it appeared that Bones took her comments most personally, despite Hough agreeing and expanding on the fact that he wasn’t necessarily the best dancer of the season.

Guyton’s viewpoint seemed to upset Bones noticeably, and while we can comprehend this reaction, it’s the harsh manner in which he criticizes her, while dismissing Hough’s input, that has undeniably added an extra layer of discomfort to this already tense situation.
