As a gaming enthusiast sharing some exciting news, I’m thrilled to announce that the legendary actress Julia Roberts has taken on the starring role for Amazon MGM Studios’ highly-anticipated film adaptation of “Kill Your Darlings.” This gripping murder mystery is penned by Peter Swanson and will be available from HarperCollins on June 10, 2025. I can’t wait to see how this captivating story unfolds on the big screen!
Beyond just starring in it, Roberts will also produce the upcoming film alongside Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill under their Red Om Films label. James Gray (known for Paper Tiger) will direct, while Scott Stuber produces for United Artists. This project is a continuation of Roberts’ and Stuber’s partnership, having previously collaborated on 2023’s Leave the World Behind film. Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh from Tribeca Studios, and Nick Nesbitt are additional producers. Joel Gotler and Swanson will serve as executive producers.
What is Kill Your Darlings about?
According to the official summary of “Kill Your Darlings,” the Graves couple, Thom and Wendy, have been married for over two decades. They reside in a charming Victorian house on the Massachusetts north coast. Wendy is an established poet, while Thom educates students about English literature at a nearby university. Their son, Jason, has grown up. Everything seems perfect…with one exception: Wendy harbors a desire to kill her husband.
The sequence of events that unfolds is closely connected to what came before. The narrative of Wendy and Thom’s marriage is presented in reverse chronology, allowing us to relive significant moments from their lives—their golden anniversary party, purchasing their home, the birth of Jason, the perplexing death of a work associate—each event contributing to a picture of a union shaped by a single devastating act they conspired on years ago.
In time, we discover the hidden past of Thom and Wendy during their youth, a secret that has sustained their bond throughout their marriage. However, this secret’s grip on them is loosening, and both start questioning if it would be beneficial for each of them if they ensure their spouse takes these secrets to their final resting place.
