Jonathan Bailey confirms Anthony will be back in Bridgerton season 4

As a die-hard Bridgerton fan who’s been eagerly waiting for more gossips from the ton since the cliffhanger ending of season 2, I couldn’t contain my excitement when I heard that Jonathan Bailey will indeed be returning as Anthony Bridgerton in season 4. The wait is going to be worth it, and I can barely contain myself!

During a morning chat on August 16 with Good Morning America, Bailey unveiled this news. Although primarily there to discuss his role in the historical romance miniseries Fellow Travelers, which earned him an Emmy nomination, he also touched upon the eagerly awaited fourth season of Bridgerton for a brief moment.

In response to questions about Anthony’s activities in season 4, Bailey revealed that he hasn’t figured it out yet but is eager to dive into the scripts. Furthermore, he’s made room in his professional engagements for resuming his character as the eldest Bridgerton brother. Thus, it’s official! Fans can anticipate Jonathan Bailey reprising his role as Anthony Bridgerton in Bridgerton season 4.

Below, we’ve linked to the GMA interview where conversation about the fourth season of the period drama starts at approximately 2 minutes and 39 seconds, with Bailey leading the discussion.

In a prior chat, Simone Ashley, portraying Kate Bridgerton, Anthony’s wife in the show, expressed her desire to reappear in Season 4. Although we haven’t received official word about her comeback at this point, it seems highly unlikely given that Bailey is now involved. It’s hard to imagine Kathony making up only half of the fourth season!

In a June 2024 interview with Variety, Bridgerton’s season 3 producer Jess Brownell mentioned her hope for Ashley and Bailey to reappear in the fourth season. However, their return is contingent on various factors, primarily whether they can accommodate it within their busy schedules. It appears that Bailey has been able to manage his schedule, but there’s uncertainty about Ashley’s availability. At present, Ashley seems to be focusing on a new project – an upcoming sports film titled F1. Here’s hoping she can juggle her commitments and find a way to rejoin the Bridgerton cast for season 4.

Apart from Thompson and Bailey, only Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton have been confirmed as returning cast members at this point. In an interview for season 3 of Bridgerton, they revealed that they will reappear to continue playing Penelope and Colin Bridgerton.

As per Brownell’s announcement, filming for Bridgerton Season 4 will begin in autumn, and viewers can expect the next installment on Netflix around 2026. Though this delay might be disappointing, it’s reassuring to know that another season of the historical series is coming our way.
