Jon Hamm’s Radio Show Gets Hijacked in New TV Show American Hostage

Award-winning actor Jon Hamm has officially agreed to play the main character in MGM+’s upcoming psychological thriller anthology series named “American Hostage“. This fresh production is inspired by a real-life hostage crisis that occurred in 1977.

Hamm’s latest television series is set to air following the recent premiere of his dark comedy series “Your Friends & Neighbors” on Apple TV+. The fourth episode of this series will be released this coming Friday, April 25th. Interestingly, the show has already been renewed for a second season before its debut. Additionally, Hamm is currently involved in two upcoming projects: an adventure-comedy film titled “Wilder & Me” and a Pixar movie called “Hoppers”.

What is American Hostage about?

This series focuses on the character Hamm portraying Fred Heckman, an Indy radio journalist, who unexpectedly finds himself in a high-stakes situation when a hostage-taker, Tony Kiritsis, insists on being interviewed for his hit radio news program during a life-threatening crisis.

The movie ‘American Hostage’ will be adapted from a popular podcast sharing the same title, produced by Criminal Content with direction by Shawn Christensen. In the podcast, Hamm plays Fred Heckman. For the film adaptation, it is developed and overseen by Shawn Ryan (from ‘The Night Agent’) and Eileen Myers (‘Masters of Sex’).

Michael Wright, head of MGM+, expressed his excitement in a statement about the collaboration between Shawn Ryan, Eileen Myers, Jon Hamm, and Sony Pictures Television. He considers this team as a perfect match for MGM+, referring to it as a heavenly union. The story they are working on is an intriguing one revolving around real individuals grappling with a hostage situation in real-time, and Wright believes that Jon Hamm, with his unique talent, is the ideal actor to bring this tale to life.
