Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher Gets a Costume Change in New Set Video

A freshly released video clip features Jon Bernthal donning the Punisher outfit, giving us a sneak peek at his revamped appearance for Marvel’s forthcoming Special Presentation. The footage was taken during filming and hints at the return of Frank Castle after Daredevil: Born Again.

The Punisher sports a new look in Special Presentation set video

A recently released 10-second video snippet from Marvel’s upcoming 2026 Punisher feature film captures Jon Bernthal dressed as The Punisher (as Frank Castle). In this brief scene, he is depicted strolling down a pathway sandwiched between two bright yellow school buses.

In the video, you can see him donning a lengthy black trench coat and sporting an untamed, thick beard. This is quite different from how he looked in previous instances, such as his recent portrayal in Daredevil: Born Again, where he was clean-shaven and not wearing the trench coat.

In my gaming world, I’ve never seen Jon Bernthal’s Punisher rock a trench coat and beard combo before, not in the Defenders Saga on Netflix or his debut in Born Again within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But some leaked set videos floating around on X (previously Twitter) suggest that Frank Castle is back to business, blasting bad guys from a moving car and storming into Ma Gnucci’s restaurant, which is rumored to be our Punisher’s main adversary in the upcoming series. If these reports are true, Ma will be the first live-action female villain Frank Castle has gone up against in years. Last we saw Bernthal, his Punisher was escaping Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force at the end of Born Again Season 1.

In this new take on The Punisher, the story unfolds subsequent to the events of Daredevil’s “Born Again”. Jon Bernthal collaborated on the script with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who is also at the helm as the director for this project.

The upcoming Special Presentation is anticipated to carry an R-rating and premier on Disney+ in 2026. Previously, Bernthal told The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s going to be a gritty production; Frank doesn’t intend to lighten up the darkness… It won’t be a watered-down version of The Punisher, I can assure you that.” In another interview with Collider, he further stated, “If we move forward with this, we need to get it right and maintain a deep reverence for the original source material.

In the upcoming movie “Spider-Man: Fresh Start,” set to release on July 31, 2026, Jon Bernthal reprises his role as The Punisher. This will be Frank Castle’s first big-screen appearance since the film “Punisher: War Zone” in 2008.
