JoJo Siwa ‘Mom Made Wig’ Controversy Explained

Curious as to why JoJo Siwa has been receiving criticism regarding her red carpet appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards? The ex-Dance Moms star drew attention for her extravagant, glittering wig; however, controversy ensued when it was alleged that she attributed the design to her mother. Now, the true creator of the wig is coming forward about being overlooked and uncompensated.

Here’s what the stylist revealed about the incident and Siwa’s response.

JoJo Siwa accused of crediting her mom for wig instead of stylist

At the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards, JoJo Siwa made an entrance sporting a tall wig adorned with gems and glittering horns, as well as a charming pink accessory.

At the red carpet event, she shared with iHeartRadio that she purchased the wig from Etsy. Additionally, she acknowledged her mother’s contribution to crafting a piece of her ensemble (as reported by People). Subsequently, it was disclosed by various media outlets that her mother had created the entire headpiece.

The original wig maker publicly expressed his discontent online, stating that he wasn’t given credit for the work he did. He asserted that JoJo Siwa asked for two wigs but paid for only one. In an online post on Reddit, he stated, “I felt quite down afterwards, realizing that my debut on the red carpet, my initial recognition and hard-earned effort, were taken away from me without any credit.

In a different conversation on Instagram, the stylist with the handle @barbiedicksofficial replied to a commenter about an unpaid work incident. They said, “When I asked her about it, she didn’t respond and deleted all her pictures featuring the wig. She still hasn’t paid me for my second assignment, which has added to my growing annoyance over the lack of recognition.

Later on, he explained that Siwa didn’t intentionally deceive but rather there was confusion due to ambiguous remarks made during the red carpet event. According to his account, Siwa stated her mother created “this” while showing the jacket, which reporters took to mean the wig, causing a lot of incorrect information to spread. In his words, “Multiple news outlets… invented details for their articles in order to make them more extensive.

The stylist expressed concern that expressing his views might damage his standing in Hollywood, saying, “I’ve been hesitant to speak up about it due to the fear of being put on a blacklist.” At this moment, Siwa hasn’t made any public comments or addressed the second wig payment issue.
