John Woo’s next movie with be a “half-musical.”

John Woo is a renowned director in the action movie genre, recognized for his distinctive style that blends intense violence with intricate aesthetics. Flicks like “A Better Tomorrow” (1986), “The Killer” (1989), “Hard Boiled” (1992), “Face/Off” (1997) are some of his notable works. His latest production, a remake of “The Killer,” is currently available on Peacock, featuring Nathalie Emmanuel and Omar Sy in the leading roles.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Woo discussed what he now plans to film next.

What will John Woo’s next project with Sparks look like?

Woo mentioned that his upcoming venture is essentially a blend of music and theater. He will collaborate with the Sparks Brothers, who are responsible for both the script and the tunes. They’re currently making adjustments to the script as they delve into this exciting project.

He added, “It will be my first movie where I don’t need to hire a stuntman.”

In 1971, the Mael brothers, Ron and Russell, put out Sparks’ first studio album. Over the years, Sparks has produced a total of 26 studio albums and has enjoyed success with tracks like “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us,” “When I’m with You,” among others. For the 2021 musical film Annette, directed by Leos Carax, they composed all the music. Additionally, they were the focus of Edgar Wright’s 2021 documentary titled The Sparks Brothers.

Interestingly, Sparks used the hashtag #xcrucior in a September 5 post on their social media.

Apart from the upcoming “half-musical” film called Sparks, Woo is also busy with another project – a Western movie scripted by Brian Helgeland.

“It has a lot of romance and a lot of emotion and exciting action,” he said.
