John Mulaney surprisingly gives hip-hop fans the gift we didn’t know we needed

John Mulaney hosts an unconventional talk show on Netflix titled “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney“. Unlike other shows that typically feature well-known celebrities, he invites less obvious guests and unique musical artists. While it may not attract large audiences, its focus on being distinct sets it apart from the rest. Indeed, it manages to be different in a successful manner.

One notable musical act that made an appearance during the final episode of his first season was the Cleveland-based hip-hop group, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. It’s unclear why this collaboration came together when it did, as it appears that comedian John Mulaney had attempted to book them earlier in 2025 without success. However, it seems that a mutual connection managed to arrange for the group’s appearance on the show at a later date.

In this instance, things seemed a tad unusual, unlike the general peculiarity of Mulaney’s talk show. However, this particular case stood out as distinct.

John Mulaney wrangles Bone Thugs-N-Harmony into showing up on his talk show

For several weeks, Mulaney had been preparing for a hypothetical confrontation with three adolescent boys. This scenario arose from the viral discussion on social media about whether a hundred men could overpower a gorilla. In Mulaney’s context, it was more about how one 42-year-old man might handle himself against three teenagers.

Warning: It turned out that he didn’t manage to do it. Given the circumstances, it seemed quite planned since all participants were wearing protective gear, and the comedian showed no signs of wanting to harm them deliberately. They all stepped into a wrestling ring, and within seconds, the boys charged at Mulaney, pinning him down until he signaled submission by tapping out.

Here, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony made their entrance stealthily through a hidden door. They took the stage and played their 1996 hit, “Tha Crossroads.” The entire atmosphere was dreamlike. It seems unlikely that money wasn’t exchanged since it’s hard to imagine Bone Thugs participating in the absurdity of the scene.

The band doesn’t currently plan to release a new album, which might have generated more attention for them than usual. As fans might revisit their past works, it’s worth noting that they haven’t made a significant impact on the charts since the late 2000s. Their last album, “New Waves,” came out in 2017, but only reached as high as number 181 on the charts.

It’s been heard around town that Bone Thugs-N-Harmony might drop a fresh single in the year 2025, though an exact release date remains uncertain. Fingers crossed, their collaboration with John Mulaney will generate more listens!
