Is it possible that the character named Jod Na Nawood from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew actually has a connection to the Jedi order? The season finale delves into his enigmatic past, uncovering surprising links to the Jedi Order and the life-altering incident that determined his destiny for good.
Here’s everything you need to know about Jod’s backstory and his true connection to the Force.
Was Jod Na Nawood really a Jedi in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew?
In Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Jod Na Nawood, portrayed by Jude Law, is not a Jedi.
Although he’s skilled with a lightsaber and has some abilities linked to the Force, the season finale reveals that Jod never fully completed his Jedi training. His link to the Jedi Order originates from his brief instruction under a Jedi Master during his childhood, before the occurrence of Order 66.
In the final episode, titled “The Real Good Guys,” we learn about Jod’s past. Originally a street kid, he lived in a burrow, until a traveling Jedi Master chanced upon him. Sensing his potential with the Force, she took him under her wing and started teaching him. Unfortunately, their lessons were disrupted when the Imperial forces pursued her during Order 66, forcing her into hiding or worse.
Jod observed the grim spectacle of her being put to death, an incident that left a deep imprint on his life’s journey. This harrowing event accounts for his proficiency in fundamental Force skills and his ownership of a lightsaber, yet he falls short of the comprehensive training and ethical standards expected of a Jedi.
Throughout the series, Jod leverages his ability with the Force for self-advantage. In the final episode, he presents himself as both a Jedi and an emissary. However, the planet’s overseer, voiced by Stephen Fry, later exposes his deceit and accuses the Jedi of being traitors following Order 66.
Jod shows aggressive behavior, wrecking the robot and disabling the security system on At Attin in order to seize power. Yet, Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel unite against him, playing a crucial role in the eventual freedom of the planet.
In the story Skeleton Crew, it’s revealed that Jod has a complicated relationship with the Jedi. He had been briefly mentored by a Jedi who was killed during Order 66. Following her demise, he opted for a life of piracy, utilizing his Force abilities and wielding a lightsaber, but without adhering to the principles of the Jedi. The ending leaves open the possibility for further Star Wars narratives about Jod’s destiny.
