As a gamer with a penchant for engaging narratives and diverse characters, the trailer for Interior Chinatown piqued my interest immediately. Having grown up watching countless hours of procedural TV shows, I could empathize with Jimmy O. Yang’s character, Willis Wu, who yearns to break free from the monotony of being a background character in his own life.
Hulu recently released a preview for the upcoming drama series titled “Interior Chinatown,” which is adapted from the 2020 book of the same name written by Charles Yu.
In this fresh, thought-provoking series, Jimmy O. Yang from Love Hard plays the role of Willis Wu, Chloe Bennet from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. takes on Detective Lana Lee, Ronny Chieng (Crazy Rich Asians) portrays Fatty Choi, Sullivan Jones (Big George Foreman) is Miles Turner, Lisa Gilroy (Glamorous) stars as Sarah Green, Diana Lin (Lonely Blue Night) becomes Lily Wu, and Archie Kao (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy) assumes the role of Uncle Wong.

What happens in the Interior Chinatown trailer?
In the trailer, we are introduced to Yang’s character, Willis Wu, who is grappling with an existential dilemma. Feeling like a secondary character in someone else’s tale, Willis expresses his dissatisfaction with the monotony of his current role as a background actor in a police drama called Black & White, yearning for more excitement in his life.
His life experiences an unforeseen shift as he unwittingly witnesses a crime. Subsequently, a female detective recruits him to aid in the probe of a vanished woman and the peculiar occurrences linked to the shady depths of Chinatown.
The series focuses on Willis Wu, a supporting actor in a cop show titled Black & White. Stuck in the background, Willis carries out his on-screen duties, serving tables and yearning for a life beyond Chinatown, striving to be the main character of his own tale. Unexpectedly, Willis witnesses a crime, which sets him off on an investigation into Chinatown’s underworld, all while uncovering his family’s long-hidden past and experiencing what it’s like to be in the limelight.
All 10 episodes of Interior Chinatown arrive on Hulu on Tuesday, November 19.
