As a dedicated gamer and avid follower of entertainment news, I was really looking forward to seeing Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney host the 2025 Oscars. Kimmel has been a reliable and entertaining host in the past, having emceed the previous two ceremonies. And Mulaney’s hilarious performance at the 14th Annual Governor’s Awards and his bit dedicated to Kevin Costner and Field of Dreams during the last Oscars ceremony had me excited for what he could bring to the table as a host.

Why Did Jimmy Kimmel and John Mulaney Pass on Hosting 2025 Oscars?
ABC initially reached out to Kimmel, a five-time Oscars emcee including the last two ceremonies. However, it seems that Kimmel declined the offer to host again this year prior to his summer break from Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Following my turn-down, Mulaney emerged as ABC and the Academy’s next potential host. Yet, I also had to decline the opportunity due to a packed schedule filled with numerous projects. Among them are multiple stand-up shows and possibly a new season of Everybody’s in L.A., my talk show that could potentially get renewed by Netflix. This six-episode series, which premiered in May 2024, received mostly positive feedback from viewers.
In January 2024, Mulaney made waves as the host of the 14th Governor’s Awards, which paved the way for his successful stint as an Oscar host later that year. During the Oscars ceremony, Mulaney entertained the audience with a side-splitting comedy routine specifically for Kevin Costner and Field of Dreams.

2025 finds me eagerly awaiting the Oscars, but it seems the organizers are back to the drafting board in search of a fresh host. No worries though, there’s still ample time to bring onboard a captivating personality for this star-studded event.
ABC has the task of not just selecting a host for the Oscars, but additionally finding a suitable emcee for the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards taking place on September 15, 2024.
