Jesse Eisenberg To Direct Musical Comedy Movie, Julianne Moore & Paul Giamatti Cast

As a seasoned gamer and film enthusiast with a penchant for unique narratives, I find Jesse Eisenberg‘s upcoming musical comedy project to be an intriguing blend of my two favorite worlds. His previous works have shown his knack for storytelling and character development, which is evident in the plot description of this new movie. The idea of a shy woman finding herself through a community theater production resonates with me on a personal level, as I too have found solace and growth within gaming communities.

Jesse Eisenberg is set to direct an as-yet unnamed musical comedy film for Topic Studios and Fruit Tree.

Eisenberg recently wrote and directed the comedy-drama movie A Real Pain, which both Topic Studios and Fruit Tree were involved in. Now playing in United States theaters, the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past January and stars Eisenberg as David alongside Kieran Culkin as Benji.

Currently, according to Deadline, Eisenberg is set to pen and helm a fresh musical comedy that revolves around a local theater’s production.

What do we know about Jesse Eisenberg’s musical comedy movie?

According to Deadline, the story revolves around a timid woman who gets selected for a local play, an innovative musical. As she’s captivated by the determined and mysterious director, she immerses herself in her character and the intense environment of the community theater performance.

Actors Julianne Moore (known for The Big Lebowski and May December) and Paul Giamatti (famous for The Holdovers and Billions) have been added to the cast, but their roles haven’t been specified yet. Previously, Jesse Eisenberg worked with Moore in his first directorial feature film, When You Finish Saving the World, which premiered in 2022.

Eisenberg is set to compose unique tunes for his upcoming film. Filming is slated to start in early 2025. The project for “Fruit Tree,” led by Emma Stone, Dave McCary, and Ali Herting, was developed with Eisenberg’s involvement, and Topic Studios will produce the movie along with this team.

Additionally, Jesse Eisenberg has recently taken on the role of a sasquatch in the film “Sasquatch Sunset,” directed by the Zellner brothers in 2024. Upcoming, he will reappear as J. Daniel “Danny” Atlas in “Now You See Me 3,” which has completed production and is slated for release in cinemas on November 14, 2025, under the direction of Ruben Fleischer.
