Jeremy Renner Turned Down Hawkeye Season 2 Over Salary Dispute

Jeremy Renner turned down an offer for Hawkeye Season 2 over a salary dispute.

Since 2011’s Thor, Jeremy Renner has portrayed Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In 2021, he headlined a solo series produced by Marvel Studios, which was titled Hawkeye and streamed on Disney+.

According to an interview on High Performance, as reported by Variety, Renner turned down the opportunity for Hawkeye Season 2 due to a significant disagreement about pay.

What did Jeremy Renner say about Hawkeye Season 2?

He responded by saying, “They asked me to work on Season 2 and proposed a reduced payment. I countered by explaining that it would require double the effort, but for half the pay, and roughly eight months of my time overall.

Renner suggested that the lower salary was “a result of his near-fatal 2023 snowmobile accident.”

He stated, “I said, ‘Pardon me? What’s that supposed to mean? Could it be because you thought I’m just half the Jeremy since I was hit by a car? Perhaps that’s why you want to pay me only half of what I earned during the first season.’

…”This isn’t like Marvel; it’s more akin to Disney, but not quite. It’s mostly the financiers and number crunchers. I advised them to go fly a kite because our views on this matter were vastly different.

Renner expressed his delight in continuing to portray Hawkeye and indicated a strong desire for another season if a more equitable deal is proposed.

I needed to protect myself, as I never asked for extra compensation; simply pay what was agreed upon for the first season. Unfortunately, that didn’t occur, but I can move past it because my health likely appreciates me not working on it at the moment. However, let’s wait and see.
