Jeremy Renner ‘Died’ During Snowplow Accident, Avengers Star Reveals

In a recently published memoir, Jeremy Renner discusses his harrowing experience from 2023 when he was run over by a snowplow, sharing that for a brief instant, he actually passed away at the scene of the accident.

What did Jeremy Renner say about his snowplow accident?

In his upcoming memoir titled “My Next Breath,” set for release on April 29, 2025, Renner recounts the harrowing incident involving a snowplow accident at his Nevada residence in January 2023. During this fateful event, Renner bravely tried to rescue his nephew Alex from being crushed by the snowplow, only to be run over himself. Remarkably, he claims that as he lay motionless in his driveway, he thought he had passed away.

In his own words (as shared by Us Magazine), Renner stated, “Lying on the frozen ground, my heartbeat grew weaker, and it was New Year’s Day, unbeknownst to my daughter, sisters, friends, father, mother that I simply grew tired.” After approximately 30 minutes on the ice, exerting myself by manually breathing as if doing multiple push-ups per minute for half an hour… It was then that I ceased to exist. I passed away, right there on the driveway leading to my home.

After around 45 minutes, Renner was lying on the ice with his nephews and neighbors taking care of his wounds, until medical assistance arrived. The book further states that later on, his heart rate fell to 18, and those present claimed he appeared a pale shade of gray-green.

Despite suffering over 30 fractured bones and losing approximately six pints of blood, which the extent of my injuries would later reveal, an even more pressing threat to me as time passed on the ice was hypothermia, wrote Renner. The Avengers star mentioned that upon his death, he experienced a “remarkable energy,” and eventually sensed a force urging him not to “release [his] grip.

In his account of death, Renner described the sensation as a never-ending, stunningly beautiful and marvelous energy. There was no sense of location, duration, or spatial boundaries, and nothing to observe except a form of bi-directional vision constructed from strands of this incomprehensible energy. Through this, he could perceive his entire lifetime simultaneously. In death, there was no sense of time, not even a moment, yet it seemed to encompass all time and eternity.

It’s fortunate that Jeremy Renner managed to bounce back from his accident. He was transported by helicopter to a Nevada medical center for surgery on his injuries following the incident. Three months post-accident, he was spotted walking with a cane, and since then, he’s been dedicated to his rehabilitation. In 2024, Renner made his comeback to his lead role in the Paramount+ crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown, and this year, he’ll take on another starring role in the Knives Out franchise, titled Wake Up Dead Man.
