Jeremy Renner shared during an interview that he declined a proposal from Disney for the second season of the “Hawkeye” series, and there was a solid justification behind his decision.
Ever since I joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s been quite a ride. From gaining recognition with movies like The Hurt Locker (even snagging an Oscar nod) and Mission: Impossible, to embodying Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, one of the Avengers, my journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
The latter was given center stage for the first time in the Disney+ series of the same name.
Only Half The Salary – For Half A Jeremy?
In a recent chat, it’s been disclosed that Renner declined the opportunity for a second season of the show “Hawkeye” because of a significant decrease in his pay.
It’s said that Disney supposedly gave Renner less than half of his initial season’s pay, which left him feeling disappointed since he’s been recuperating from a severe injury over the past few years.

A Superhero With A Super-Comeback
2023 saw me facing an unexpected setback when I was unfortunately hit by a snowplow. The impact left me with more than thirty fractured bones, a collapsed lung, and numerous other severe injuries. Knowing this, the news of Renner’s upcoming project cancellation hits me particularly hard.
After an arduous journey of recovery, I found my strength to return – not just to the world, but also back in front of the camera. As I shared with everyone, I was eager to dive back into work, and if given the chance, I’d be thrilled to continue the adventure for a second season.
It’s as if he said, ‘Oh, by the way, here’s a lesser deal after all we’ve been through… I guess I thought you were only worth half the Jeremy since you got hit by a car?’
Not An isolated Case At Disney
It’s not just Renner who has recently voiced criticisms towards Disney publicly. On several occasions, issues such as pay, creative control, and character representation have been a subject of debate.
In simpler terms, Finn, played by John Boyega in the Star Wars trilogy, voiced his disappointment as he felt his character’s role became less central following a promising beginning.
Gina Carano, a former star of the hit show “The Mandalorian,” was let go following contentious remarks, even though additional spin-offs were in the works. Similarly, Freddie Prinze Jr., who voices characters on the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” has only agreed to return for more episodes if all voice actors are given a fair compensation.
