As a long-time fan who has witnessed Jennifer Lopez‘s incredible journey through Hollywood, I must say that her upcoming Netflix romantic comedy, “Office Romance,” is a cause for immense excitement! With her impeccable track record in rom-coms and her knack for pairing with some of the most talented leading men, this time around teaming up with Brett Goldstein from “Ted Lasso” promises a delightful blend of humor and romance.
2024 saw me adding another successful Netflix original film, “Atlas,” to my resume. Now, I’m thrilled to announce my return to Netflix and a revisit to my beloved rom-com genre. As a global superstar who’s no stranger to the romantic comedy scene, sharing the screen with some incredibly talented and dashing leading men, this time I’ll be teaming up with a hilarious star from “Ted Lasso.
According to recent reports, Jennifer Lopez is slated to feature in the upcoming Netflix romantic comedy titled “ Workplace Love Story” alongside Brett Goldstein from “Ted Lasso.” Although a detailed plot summary isn’t available yet, Deadline describes this upcoming rom-com as having an “unconventional” or “tongue-in-cheek” tone. It’s possible that their characters could find themselves in a love story similar to Jim and Pam, set within the quirky confines of another office!
In the same fashion as many of her films, Lopez is set to executive produce “Office Romance” under her Nuyorican Films label, which has a prioritized deal with Netflix. Goldstein and Joe Kelly penned the script, with Kelly being a writer and executive producer on “Ted Lasso.” Unfortunately, Deadline didn’t disclose any production timelines, so it remains unknown when we can anticipate adding this intriguing new project to our viewing lists.
Office Romance rom-com teams talented duo
Looking forward to the upcoming “Office Romance”, Lopez is riding high after a streak of successful collaborations with Netflix. The 2023 thriller, “The Mother”, has become one of Netflix’s top original movies ever, accumulating more than 136 million views. This puts it in the ninth position among all English-language movies on Netflix, an incredible feat!
2024 saw the arrival of Atlas, which presented impressive figures despite not surpassing the success of The Mother in the Netflix arena. Although it didn’t outperform The Mother, it was one of Netflix’s top original movie debuts for that year, trailing behind Damsel, The Union, Lift, and Rebel Ridge. In her work with Netflix, Lopez is also developing a TV series based on Emily Henry’s bestselling book, Happy Place.
After bagging two Emmy Awards for his exceptional performance in Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, Goldstein has been consistently working as both an actor and a writer. He’s jointly scripting and starring in the upcoming film All of You, and he’s also co-creating and penning episodes for the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. The second season, where he will also make an appearance, is set to premiere this fall.
Lopez and Goldstein might not have been our anticipated romantic comedy pair, but they’re bound to knock this one out of the ballpark! Most importantly, Lopez’s comeback to full-length romantic comedies following the success of “Marry Me” and “Shotgun Wedding” in 2022 deserves a round of applause. Could we hope for another catchy tune on the soundtrack as well?
