In the movie “The Hunger Games,” the role played by McKenna Grace shares a connection with Jennifer Lawrence’s character, Katniss Everdeen, particularly during the Reaping scene at sunrise.
It has just been revealed that Grace, famous for her roles in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, will be featured in The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping. This film, slated for release in 2026, is being helmed by Francis Lawrence and will also feature Joseph Zada portraying Haymitch and Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird.
How is Katniss connected to Mckenna Grace’s Hunger Games character?
In the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film, Grace takes on the role of Maysilee Donner, a character who shares the same fate as Haymitch from District 12, being compelled to participate in the lethal games depicted in the story.
In District 12, Donner initially possessed the Mockingjay brooch at the time of the 50th Hunger Games. Later on, Katniss inherited this emblem, as she donned it during both the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. Eventually, this pin transformed into a powerful symbol of resistance against the Capitol.
Furthermore, the Deadline article discussing Grace’s casting for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” implies that Donner’s character will be similar to the one Jennifer Lawrence portrayed as Katniss in the earlier movies, being described as “the role most like the iconic Katniss character from the previous films.
Sunrise over Panem takes us back to the world of Panem, twenty-four years prior to the events depicted in The Hunger Games. This story begins with the morning of the draw for the Fifty-first Hunger Games, a special edition known as the Second Quarter Quell, as portrayed in Suzanne Collins’ novel published recently, and is the basis for the upcoming film.
As I immerse myself into the gaming world of “Sunrise on the Reaping”, it’s a thrill to know that the storyline was masterfully crafted by none other than Billy Ray. The dynamic duo, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, are steering this project as producers, while Cameron MacConomy takes on the role of executive producer, ensuring we all get to experience this epic adventure in the best possible way.
In U.S. cinemas, “The Hunger Games: Dawn of the Reaping” is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026, by Lionsgate.
