Jenna Ortega Found Wednesday School Uniform ‘Very Patronizing’

More recently, Jenna Ortega has shared insights into her continued experience on Netflix’s series titled “Wednesday“, as well as her initial dislike towards the show’s school uniform and the celebrity status it bestowed upon her.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Ortega shared how the popularity of the show impacted her personally, revealing that she felt unhappy following her rise to fame and recognition as a “scream queen” in horror films and for Wednesday.

Ortega shared insights about how the character of Wednesday, a student, frequently causes her internal struggles. She fears that portraying Wednesday might narrow her professional opportunities in Hollywood, and she sometimes feels underestimated because of it, particularly when she’s required to wear a costume that some find patronizing, as is often the case with the character of Wednesday.

Ortega mentioned that she’s performing a role as a schoolgirl for an extended period, but she emphasized that she is also growing into a young woman. She analogized her situation to wearing a schoolgirl costume, suggesting that it can feel demeaning or condescending. Furthermore, she pointed out that being short and female often means people literally look down on you, and if women evolve beyond the initial image they were introduced with, there’s often criticism, like “She’s changed; she must have sold her soul.” However, Ortega noted that these women are going through crucial stages in their lives, and it’s natural for them to explore and grow.
