As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the legendary gamer-turned-actor, Jeff Bridges (yours truly in Tron), has spilled some exciting beans about my return as Kevin Flynn in the upcoming movie, Tron: Ares. In a fresh chat, I delved into the mind-boggling question of how Flynn managed to dodge the bullet post Tron: Legacy, pondered over the dynamic shifts within the Grid, and hinted at some tantalizing twists that fans will be on the edge of their seats for in this next chapter of our beloved franchise.
Jeff Bridges talks Kevin Flynn’s Tron: Ares return
Jeff Bridges revealed his plans to once again embody Kevin Flynn in the upcoming Tron: Ares movie, despite the character seemingly meeting his end in Tron: Legacy (2010). During an interview with Empire, Bridges expressed his initial shock at being asked back, noting that “in the Grid, anything is possible.” He went on to explain that the digital universe allows for such continuity, stating, “It turned out that I still possess some form of consciousness.
As a gamer, I’d put it like this: In Tron: Legacy, Flynn made a fateful move by merging with his digital twin CLU, sealing him away from crossing into our world. In the climactic scene, they seemed to disintegrate. Yet, Jeff Bridges hinted at Flynn’s digital survival, stating, “Some new info has surfaced.” He described the Grid as a realm where life and death boundaries bend and flex.
Reflecting on the development of Flynn, the character who initially aimed for digital perfection for humankind, the actor mused, “We humans often chase perfection, yet we can lose sight of what truly matters – the adventure itself being the goal.” He emphasized that the Tron: Ares character’s journey will delve into this transformation in outlook.
Ares,” helmed by Joachim Rønning, is the third movie in the Tron series. It focuses on a fresh character named Ares (portrayed by Jared Leto), who departs from the Grid into the real world. Bruce Boxleitner reappears in his role as Flynn for the third time since the franchise’s start back in 1982. The cast also includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Gillian Anderson.
Tron: Ares is scheduled to release on October 10, 2025.
