Earlier this year, it was announced that the upcoming film Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal, is set to hit theaters in early 2026. Now, the movie’s director Jeethu Joseph has confirmed that he has completed the initial scriptwriting while simultaneously working on two other projects.
Did Jeethu Joseph finish writing Drishyam 3?
Recenty, Jeethu Joseph attended as the main guest at the opening ceremony for the Film and Drama Club situated at Nirmala College in Muvattupuzha. In his address, the director shared that he completed writing the ending of Drishyam 3 the previous night, a task that has been causing him significant stress for an extended period.
Every morning at 3:30 a.m., I’d rise between the growths of Mirage and Valathu Vashathe Kallan to write. It was a tough battle, both physically and mentally draining. But yesterday, I experienced a sense of release,” he noted.
As Jeethu continued speaking, he explained that as he stepped onto the stage, the Drishyam theme tune filled the air. At that instant, images from the original movie, its sequel, and now the third installment flashed through his mind.
Furthermore, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that principal filming for Drishyam 3 commences in October 2025. Notably, during an initial interview, the director emphasized that all three adaptations of the movie, including the Telugu and Hindi versions, are expected to start production concurrently with a simultaneous release in mind.
About Drishyam franchise
If you’re not familiar, Drishyam is a 2013 suspenseful crime movie helmed by Jeethu Joseph. It revolves around the life of Georgekutty, a dedicated family man cohabiting with his spouse and two kids.
It turns out that the man and his family become suspects in the disappearance of Varun Prabhakar. The movie then follows Georgekutty as he navigates avoiding the police and shielding his family from danger.
In 2021, the film “Drishyam 2” was released as a sequel, which featured Mohanlal and the original cast returning to their roles. This second part garnered extensive acclaim following its direct release on Amazon Prime Video.

Mohanlal will soon take on the main character in the upcoming film “Hridayapoorvam,” directed by Sathyan Anthikad. This heartwarming comedy is scheduled to premiere in movie theaters on August 28, 2025, during the Onam week.
