As a long-time admirer of Jani Master’s work, I have always been captivated by his unique choreography and the magic he brings to Tamil cinema. However, recent events have left me disheartened and appalled. The allegations against him are grave and unacceptable, regardless of the counter-allegations that have since emerged.
Jani Master, a well-known choreographer, has been taken into custody for accusations of long-term sexual misconduct towards his 21-year-old female coworker. In a surprising twist, Shameer, the nephew of Pushpa’s choreographer, has lodged a complaint against the woman who initially accused Jani Master of such behavior. In this complaint, Shameer asserts that he himself was sexually harassed by her during their trips with Jani Master to film shoots in Hyderabad and Mumbai.
Furthermore, according to an article published in M9 News, he asserted that the woman who made the accusations against him would sexually harass him in restrooms, elevators, and hotels. Shameer also asked the police to open a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act since he is a minor. His complaint has been recorded, and the ongoing police investigation is being carried out.
While Jani Master was given conditional release on bail to attend the National Awards ceremony, The Deccan Chronicle shared that his bail request was approved from October 6 to October 10. However, the National Film Awards Cell of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced publicly that the choreographer‘s National Award for Megham Karukkatha from Thiruchitrambalam had been put on hold. As a result, the Narsingi police of Cyberabad filed a petition with the court to revoke Jani Master’s temporary bail.
For those unfamiliar, Jani Master was taken into custody in Goa and then held in judicial detention for a fortnight. The police probe uncovered accusations that he physically abused his female coworker when she was underage, which resulted in charges being brought against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Additionally, he faces charges under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 323 (inflicting injury intentionally) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to The Hindu’s report, a senior police officer shared that the complainant alleged that Mr. Jani had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions during film shoots in various cities such as Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. Additionally, she asserted that he also assaulted her at her home in Narsingi on several instances. Since the victim is a resident of Narsingi, the case has been relocated to the local police station for further investigation.
