As a gamer with a soft spot for both gripping thrillers and side-splitting comedy, I can confidently say that this past week has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Keira Knightley‘s riveting performance in Black Doves is a testament to why she deserves the Golden Globe, but it’s Jamie Foxx who truly stole the show (and Netflix’s top 10 list) with his latest standup special, What Had Happened Was.
It’s clear that you adore the show “Black Doves” – after all, who doesn’t? The crime thriller is exceptional, barely surpassed by Apple TV’s “Slow Horses,” which speaks volumes. Keira Knightley delivers an outstanding performance in her role, certainly worthy of a Golden Globe nomination. However, while “Black Doves” provides an engaging fictional experience, Jamie Foxx takes a grim reality and transforms it into laughter-inducing comedy in his latest standup special.
Foxx’s special has soared past everything else and currently leads Netflix’s most-watched shows of the past week. Although the ranking may shift over time, his performance in “What Had Happened Was” is worthy of prolonged recognition due to its ability to evoke tears, laughter, and empathy.
2023 found me grappling with a brain hemorrhage that triggered a severe stroke. I spent weeks in a coma, and there were moments when the doctors weren’t optimistic about my recovery. Yet, here I am, not just surviving but transforming my ordeal into a narrative that resonates with everyone.
Jamie Foxx’s new special dispatches Black Doves on Netflix’s top 10 shows list
The special will last just an hour, not a drawn-out discussion about health care or a lengthy religious speech. Instead, Foxx excels at tickling our funny bones, and he does it exceptionally well.
Not only has Black Doves been momentarily sidestepped by Foxx, but it’s also worth mentioning that the dark comedy series “No Good Deed” has taken the second spot as the most-watched Netflix show. This captivating series boasts an impressive cast, including Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, and Luke Wilson. The story revolves around a couple in Los Angeles attempting to sell their home, with three families vying to purchase it.
As a fan myself, I must say that while it shares some similarities with a reality series, it couldn’t be further from the truth. It appears that dark comedies are becoming quite popular during the holiday season, and No Good Deed certainly fits the bill. And let me tell you, Jamie Foxx doesn’t disappoint in this one, and neither does Black Doves.
