In an interview with MovieWeb, Mangold shared his reasons for accepting the Star Wars: The Dawn of the Jedi project. “This Star Wars film is set 25,000 years before any other known Star Wars movie. It’s a realm and playground I’ve always been eager to delve into, and it captivated me as a young teen,” the director expressed. “At this stage, I’m not particularly drawn to being restricted by so much established lore that it becomes nearly unchangeable, leaving no room for satisfaction.

In a past conversation with the media, James Mangold explained his approach to choosing films to direct, saying “What truly matters are the opportunities to create something fresh.” Later, he updated fans on the status of his Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi project, mentioning that he and Beau Willimon have been writing a script for it, and will see what transpires.
