In his own words, James Mangold emphasized the significance of having creative freedom when it comes to exploring fresh ideas. The opportunity to direct a Star Wars movie that wasn’t tied to extensive background stories played a crucial role in him agreeing to undertake the task.
In an interview with MovieWeb, Mangold shared his reasons for accepting the Star Wars: The Dawn of the Jedi project. “This Star Wars film is set 25,000 years before any other known Star Wars movie. It’s a realm and playground I’ve always been eager to delve into, and it captivated me as a young teen,” the director expressed. “At this stage, I’m not particularly drawn to being restricted by so much established lore that it becomes nearly unchangeable, leaving no room for satisfaction.
In a past conversation with the media, James Mangold explained his approach to choosing films to direct, saying “What truly matters are the opportunities to create something fresh.” Later, he updated fans on the status of his Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi project, mentioning that he and Beau Willimon have been writing a script for it, and will see what transpires.
The Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi comic series delves into the early periods of the Jedi Order’s history. Authored by John Ostrander, the initial issue was launched in February 2012. James Mangold and acclaimed screenwriter Beau Willimon are teaming up to adapt this Jedi origin tale for the big screen.
