The long-awaited release of Superman from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures is almost here! You can catch it in U.S. theaters this weekend. Directed by Gunn, the movie features David Corenswet as our hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

In an interview with The Times U.K., Gunn discussed the DCU movie and stated, “Indeed, it delves into politics. Yet, on a deeper layer, it explores morality. Is it always wrong to kill, as Superman maintains, or is there a balance, like Lois Lane believes? Essentially, it’s about their relationship and how conflicting views on fundamental moral principles can drive two individuals apart.

In terms of its political implications, Gunn pointed out, “Superman’s tale mirrors America’s journey. He’s an immigrant who settled in this land from another place, but to me, it’s primarily about the idea that fundamental human compassion is a virtue we seem to have forgotten.

When asked if he believed the movie might be perceived differently in conservative versus liberal regions, Gunn replied, “Indeed, it’s interpreted differently. It centers around human compassion, and unfortunately, there will always be individuals who lack empathy and view such a theme as offensive simply because it promotes kindness. However, I couldn’t care less about them.

Gunn’s remarks accurately reflect Superman’s character as portrayed in DC Comics, since the hero is frequently viewed as an allegory for immigrants. This is because Kal-El hails from another planet before arriving in the U.S., and he must conceal his true identity while coping with the prejudice of some individuals who are upset by his presence in America.
