As a dedicated DC fan with over two decades of comic book history under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and intrigue as we navigate the uncharted waters of James Gunn‘s DCU. The rumors swirling about Batman’s casting have been as numerous as the shadows in Gotham City, but one thing is for certain – Gunn himself has debunked the latest speculation that the Caped Crusader will be a middle-aged man.
James Gunn says the latest DCU Batman casting rumor is completely false.
Currently, there’s no officially announced actor playing the role of the Dark Knight in Gunn and Safran’s upcoming DCU. While Batman is confirmed to appear in The Brave and the Bold, directed by Andy Muschietti, neither the release date nor if this film will be the debut of Batman in the DCU have been confirmed yet.
What does seem clear at this time is that the Dark Knight won’t be a middle-aged man.
What did James Gunn say about the Batman casting rumor?
Regarding the post on Threads by @smallcreeno suggesting that DC Studios might cast an older man as Batman, Gunn countered this claim, stating it was “nonsense.
I shared my thoughts on this topic through an Instagram story too, expressing that sometimes people can misunderstand information, but at other times, they appear to fabricate stories for attention. This instance falls into the latter category.

Who has been cast in the DCU?
Although the identity of Batman in the DC Universe remains unknown for now, some key characters have already been chosen for upcoming roles. David Corenswet will don the cape as Superman in 2025’s film, with Rachel Brosnahan portraying his love interest Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult stepping into the shoes of Lex Luthor, Superman’s formidable adversary.
In the meantime, Milly Alcock takes on the role of Supergirl, Isabela Merced portrays Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi assumes the character of Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion acts as Guy Gardner, and Anthony Carrigan embodies Metamorpho.
In the latest news, Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre have been cast as Hal Jordan and John Stewart respectively for an upcoming Green Lantern series. Meanwhile, Frank Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., will make his initial appearance in the 2024 Creature Commandos, followed by a role in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
In Season 2 of “Peacemaker,” we’ll find ourselves in the DC Universe again, with familiar faces like John Cena, Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee returning to the scene. Furthermore, some beloved characters from the extended DC Universe, such as Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, and Blue Beetle, portrayed by Xolo Maridueña, will also be joining the ongoing narrative.
