James Gunn says that Superman isn’t all good and Lex Luthor isn’t all bad in the new DCU movie.
In exactly a month, you’ll find Superman gracing the big screen, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios. This high-stakes film is written and directed by Gunn, with David Corenswet stepping into the role of our main character, Superman. Rachel Brosnahan takes on the part of Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult brings Lex Luthor to life.
What did James Gunn say about Superman and Lex Luthor?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn stated, “Some characters are almost like saints, such as Superman, while others are nearly despicable, like Lex Luthor. However, I don’t believe that Lex is entirely evil, and I don’t think Superman is completely good. The people in the middle, such as Guy Gardner and Jimmy Olsen, have even more intricate moralities and what they consider acceptable.
As a dedicated gamer diving into the world of comic book adaptations, I’m thrilled to see Nathan Fillion stepping into the role of Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming movie, while Skyler Gisondo brings Jimmy Olsen to life on screen.
In addition to previously mentioned actors, we have Edi Gathegi portraying Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan stepping into the role of Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Jonathan and Martha Kent respectively, Wendell Pierce taking on Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, and Alan Tudyk lending his voice to Superman Robot #4.
The upcoming film, “Superman,” produced by DC Studios, is scheduled to fly into cinemas globally this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. According to the official summary, director James Gunn reinterprets the classic superhero within a fresh take on the DC universe. With a unique mix of intense action, humor, and emotional depth, he presents a Superman who is motivated by empathy and faith in human kindness.
Superman hits United States theaters and IMAX on July 11, 2025.
