One of the perplexing aspects of comic books lies in the intricate backstory shared by Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Due to numerous alterations over time, it can be challenging to determine if they are extraterrestrial beings or ancient Egyptians, as their origins have been portrayed in various ways.
Regarding the forthcoming Superman film where Isabel Merced will portray a contemporary take on Hawkgirl, a fan inquired from James Gunn whether her wings in this movie would be organic or mechanical. His response was succinctly “Organic.” However, this answer has sparked numerous questions among fans since most depictions of Hawkgirl have metallic wings made of Nth metal rather than organic ones. The original character, Shiera Sanders Hall from the Golden Age, had wings that were part of an Nth metal artifact.
In simpler terms, the original Silver Age character Shayera Hol had her wings as part of her uniform, which were crafted from a special material called Nth metal. More recent versions, such as Kendra Saunders, also have wings made of this same material. If Gunn perceives these wings to be ‘organic’ means he might consider them as being a natural part of the character, not artificial. It could suggest that the creators are revising the history of the character once more, adapting her to fit current storytelling trends or audience preferences.
