James Gunn Confirms Future DC Projects Set in 3 Countries & Eyes India Next

James Gunn, co-CEO and director at DC, has hinted that he aims to broaden the rebooted DC Universe and produce a superhero film based in India. Furthermore, he suggested that DC productions set in Japan, Korea, and Brazil are currently under development. At present, Gunn is focusing on promoting his upcoming movie, Superman, which features David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. This film is scheduled for release in theaters on July 11, 2025.

In a private conversation, James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy) and Rachel Brosnahan shared insights, with Gunn disclosing his intentions to introduce an Indian superhero within the realm of the DC Universe.

In addition to his statement, James Gunn told HT City that DCU projects based in Korea, Japan, and Brazil are currently being worked on.

In response to a reporter’s suggestion about featuring an Indian actor in a DC movie, Gunn enthusiastically concurred. He remarked, “I’m all for having an Indian actor in our cast! But I’d also be thrilled to work with Indian filmmakers. We believe that there are heroes everywhere, and storytellers worldwide who can bring these characters to life within the DC universe.

James Gunn mentioned that it’s crucial to involve passionate Indian filmmakers for the introduction of an Indian superhero in the DC Universe. He further explained, “We’ve already made a beginning in South Korea, Japan, and Brazil. It would be fantastic if we could join hands with some talented Indians too.

In his own words, the director of Superman expressed his affection for Bollywood movies by saying, “For me, Bollywood films and Eastern cinema in general play a crucial role when I’m crafting stories. They provide something unique – they aren’t shy about creating a film that encompasses emotion, drama, humor, music, and beauty all at once.
