Amazon Studios, in partnership with James Bond co-owners Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, has recently sealed a new collaboration deal. This agreement officially transfers creative control of the renowned spy franchise to Amazon Studios, following almost four years since Amazon obtained the rights to the iconic character via its 2021 merger with MGM.
As per their recent partnership agreement, Amazon’s MGM Studios will now hold the rights to the James Bond character, with Wilson and Broccoli continuing as co-owners of the franchise. However, details regarding the upcoming James Bond film are still under wraps, as debates about who might play the next 007 agent persist online. Some of the names being tossed around include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard Madden, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Henry Cavill.
Barbara Broccoli expressed that her life’s work has been centered around preserving and expanding the remarkable heritage passed down by their father, film producer Cubby Broccoli. She has cherished the opportunity to collaborate with four exceptional actors who embodied 007 and countless talented artists within the industry. With the end of No Time to Die and Michael stepping away from the films, she feels it’s appropriate to shift her attention towards other projects she has in store.
Amazon MGM Studios executive comments on its new James Bond deal
For more than six decades, James Bond has been a highly recognizable figure in cinema, according to Mike Hopkins, head of Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. We are thankful to Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman for initially bringing 007 to movie screens globally, and to Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for their persistent commitment and their part in preserving the popular franchise that is adored by fans worldwide. It’s an honor for us to uphold this cherished tradition and anticipate introducing the next chapter of the legendary James Bond to audiences everywhere.
Wilson stated, “Given that my 007 career has lasted almost 60 remarkable years, I’m choosing to concentrate on artistic endeavors and philanthropic pursuits. Consequently, Barbara and I concur that it’s appropriate for Amazon MGM Studios, our reliable partner, to guide James Bond into the future.
